For a lot of people this is the question that decides whether they ring at all, so here is how it works.
We accept a wide range of funding, and most people who come through the clinic aren't paying the full cost themselves. If you're not sure which of these applies to you, that's normal. Ring the clinic and we'll work it out with you before you book anything.
NDIS
Participants with exercise physiology or improved daily living in their plan.
We work with self-managed and plan-managed participants. Exercise physiology usually sits under Improved Daily Living or Improved Health and Wellbeing. Bring your plan or your plan manager's details and we'll sort the invoicing from there.
You'll need your plan, and a referral if your plan is agency-managed.
DVA
Veterans and dependants with a Gold or White Card.
Exercise physiology is covered for eligible card holders. Your GP writes a D904 referral, and there's generally nothing for you to pay on the day.
A D904 referral from your GP is required.
EPC and Medicare
People managing a chronic condition through their GP.
If your GP puts you on a Chronic Disease Management plan, Medicare covers a set number of allied health sessions each calendar year. Those sessions are shared across all allied health you use, so if you're also seeing a physio or a dietitian, the allocation is split between them.
Your GP must refer you under a Chronic Disease Management plan.
Private health funds
Anyone with Extras cover that includes exercise physiology.
Most funds with Extras cover pay a rebate for exercise physiology. How much depends on your policy and your annual limits, so it's worth ringing your fund and asking before your first appointment. No referral is needed.
No referral needed. Check your rebate with your fund first.
WorkCover
People recovering from an injury that happened at work.
If you have an accepted claim, exercise physiology can be approved as part of your recovery and return to work. Your case manager or GP arranges the referral and the insurer is billed directly.
A referral and an approved claim number are needed.
Home Care Packages
Older Australians on a package, at any level.
Exercise physiology can be funded through a Home Care Package where it supports your independence and mobility. Your provider handles the approval and pays us directly.
Your package provider needs to approve it first.
Private
Anyone, with no referral and no scheme involved.
You can book and pay for yourself without going near a GP. Plenty of people do exactly that, and it's the fastest way to be seen.
No referral, no paperwork, no waiting on approvals.
Do I need a referral?
You don't need one to see us privately, so you can ring up, book and be seen without involving your GP at all. A referral only becomes necessary when you want to claim through Medicare, NDIS, DVA or WorkCover, because those schemes require one before they will pay.
What will it cost me?
That depends entirely on which of the above applies to you, and for private health it depends on your specific policy. Instead of guessing at a number that turns out to be wrong, ring the clinic on 0493 403 508 and ask. We'll give you the figure for your situation, including what you would be out of pocket, before you commit to an appointment.
Cancellations
We understand that unexpected things come up. We kindly ask for at least 24 hours' notice for any cancellation or rescheduling. This allows us to offer the appointment slot to another client who may be on a waiting list. Appointments cancelled with less than 24 hours' notice will be charged at full rate.
